Breeding Rights
Most of our kittens go to pet homes on a spay/neuter agreement. A small number each year are placed with breeding rights, and that is a different kind of arrangement — closer to a working relationship than a purchase. This page sets out how we approach it, what gets agreed, and what each side is committing to, so you can decide whether it is worth starting the conversation.
Always above what the same kitten would be placed for as a pet. Where inside the range a kitten sits depends on the cat, on what the rights cover, and on what you intend to do with them.
Who This Suits
We are not trying to gatekeep. We are trying to be clear about fit, so nobody spends weeks on a conversation that was never going to work. Breeding rights make sense when:
You are running or starting a registered cattery, not planning a single litter.
You intend to health test before breeding — HCM, PKdef and SMA at minimum, the same screening we do.
You are prepared to keep an entire cat, with everything that involves, including that a whole male sprays and a whole female calls.
You want a specific line for a reason you can articulate, not whichever kitten happens to be available.
If you are unsure whether you qualify, ask anyway. A short conversation costs you nothing and saves you guessing.
How the Process Works
Tell us what you are building
Whether you are starting a cattery or adding to an established one, which lines you already work with, and what you are trying to improve. We are looking for a fit, not a sale — and the more specific you are, the more useful our answer is.
We assess the kitten for the role
Not every kitten should be bred from, including some we would happily place at the top of the pet range. Structure, the health testing behind it and temperament all have to hold up. If a kitten is not right for breeding we will say so, even where the sale would be larger.
Terms agreed in writing
Price, what the rights cover, the health testing expected before a first litter, and what happens if plans change. Nothing is verbal and nothing is assumed. You see the agreement before any deposit is taken, not after.
Registered and handed over
CFA registration is completed to reflect the arrangement, and the kitten goes home no earlier than it would as a pet. The timeline is about the cat, not the contract.
What the Agreement Covers
Every arrangement is written down before money changes hands. These are the areas it addresses; the specifics are settled with you, not imposed.
Scope of the rights
Which cat, and what you may do with it. Breeding rights are granted to you for that animal; they are not transferable to a third party without our agreement.
Health testing before breeding
Which tests we expect completed, and by when. We screen for HCM, PKdef and SMA, and we expect that standard to continue after the cat leaves us.
Minimum age and frequency
When a cat may first be bred, and how often afterwards. We hold our own queens to a maximum of three litters in two years and only in peak condition.
Registration and naming
How the cat is registered, and how offspring may be registered under your prefix.
If plans change
What happens if you stop breeding, cannot keep the cat, or the cat proves unsuitable for breeding. We would always rather be asked than have a cat rehomed without us knowing.

No. Pet placements are made on a spay/neuter agreement, and that is the basis on which the price is set. If you think you may want to breed, say so at the start — converting later is not something we do, and it would be unfair to buyers who paid the breeding price up front.
No, but you do need to be building one, not planning a single litter. We have placed with people starting out. What matters is that you intend to health test, register properly, and keep entire cats responsibly.
Yes, and this is the part most people underestimate. Pairing decisions, pregnancy, queening and what to do when something goes wrong are all things to ask us about, not work out alone. Lifetime support means the same thing here as it does for a pet placement.
